During Science Week, 178 elementary school students from Beauvais explored the theme of “Intelligence(s)” through three workshops led by faculty members from UniLaSalle Beauvais.

Discover science in a different way

From the movement of roots to the dance of bees, the Science Festival has taken up residence on the UniLaSalle campus in Beauvais.

In partnership with the City of Beauvais, teacher-researchers welcomed classes from primary schools in Beauvais and the Beauvaisis metropolitan area for a week of experiments and discoveries around the national theme of “Intelligence(s)”.

178 students from seven schools were able to observe, manipulate, and question living things through three workshops designed for them.

Three workshops to spark curiosity

In “Exploring Roots,” children observed how plants orient their roots according to moisture, gravity, or the presence of nutrients. They discovered that, even without a brain, plants know how to adapt to their environment in order to survive.

In “Sensory Illusions,” students tested their senses and found that the brain can be fooled. By tasting colored syrups or flavored candies, they learned that taste perception depends on several senses at once.

Finally, “How do bees choose which flowers to pollinate?” introduced them to the strategies and learning processes of bees: color and shape recognition, memory of smells, and communication through the famous bee dance.

A week dedicated to sharing

This edition of the Science Festival highlighted the diversity of forms of intelligence, from the plant world to animal behavior.

It also illustrated the commitment of UniLaSalle Beauvais teachers and researchers to promoting scientific culture by making science accessible, concrete, and fun for young people.

A week conducted in collaboration with the City of Beauvais, where curiosity, observation, and experimentation guided the steps of budding scientists.
