The MEET project, led by UniLaSalle and its academic and industrial partners, has just entered the second phase of its existence.

Developing the potential of deep geothermal energy

Created in May 2018, under the impetus of Ghislain Trullenque, teacher-researcher at UniLaSalle and financed by the European Union through the Horizon 2020 research program, MEET aims to boost the development of deep geothermal energy by valorizing the hot water from existing infrastructures for exploiting the subsoil, via the intermediary of demonstration sites in different geological contexts across Europe.

Today, the project includes 16 partners divided into 8 Work Packages. Each of them has missions to carry out.

Period 1 of the project has just come to an end. To close this period, all the partners had to produce a document summarizing the work of each Work Package and their first results: research and analysis of the different types of rocks (sedimentary, metamorphic, granite and volcanic), tests of ORC type electricity production units, tests of heat exchangers, corrosion analysis, first approaches for the elaboration of a GIS (Geographic Information System) implementation of a decision support tool for investors, identifications, implementation of a communication and dissemination strategy, participation in geothermal events and congresses, identification of KER (Key Exploitable Results).

These were presented to the Project Officer, Susana Galloni, employed by the Executive Agency "Innovation and Networks" (INEA) in charge of EU programs in the field of transport, energy and telecommunications. This presentation called "Technical Review" took place on 4 and 5 February 2020 in Brussels (Belgium).

 

A new phase placed under the sign of experimentation

Period 2 of the project started in early 2020 and will last until October 2021.
The expected results for period 2 are: new tests and installations of ORC on different types of soils, participation in several geothermal events (GeoTHERM and World Geothermal Congress), the implementation of events like the Spring School week at the University of Cergy Pontoise.
