A student at UniLaSalle Beauvais, Silène Gasperi-Deregis wins her first national U23 title in hammer throw. A gold medal that confirms her progress not only in sports, but also in her studies.
After winning eight national medals since 2021, she finally clinched gold. This summer, Silène Gasperi-Deregis stood on the top step of the podium at the French U23 Hammer Throw Championships. This achievement is the culmination of her hard work and confirms her rise among France's promising young athletes in the discipline.
The day everything fell into place
At just 20 years old, Silène found the right settings at the right time. Competing for Entente Agglomération Cergy-Pontoise Athlétisme, she threw her hammer 57.20 m, beating her personal best twice in the same competition (56.72 m then 57.20 m).
“After a semester in Mexico where I trained very little and without a coach, I didn't think I would be back to my usual level for the summer season. However, as I trained and with a lot of motivation, I set my sights on these French championships,” she says.
This victorious run earned her her first national gold medal, after accumulating eight silver and bronze podium finishes since 2021.
“On the day of the competition, I knew that everything was at stake, it was now or never. After so many years of winning silver and bronze, I am really happy to have finally achieved gold, with a new personal best!” she says emotionally.
Her consistency reflects her determination and the quality of the work she has done with her coach Stéphane Matysac.

A life between campus and stadium
While Silène impresses with her athletic performances, she does not neglect her academic future. A fourth-year student in “Food & Health,” she is pursuing a course in Development, Research, and Innovation in Food Products. Like other high-level athletes at UniLaSalle, she benefits from a specific program that allows her to balance training, competitions, and studies. The Student Life Department supports her in this demanding dual project, ensuring balance and success.
Sport, a Lasallian tradition
Beyond the individual case, Silène's success is part of a broader story. At UniLaSalle, sports play a major role, whether in club activities or in supporting athletes competing at the national and international levels. This sporting tradition nourishes the school's identity and contributes to its reputation. By winning this title, Silène adds a new page to this collective story, where passion, performance, and training go hand in hand.
