Abygaëlle, 1st year of integrated preparatory course in Earth, Life, and Environmental Sciences
- Lycée Jacques Monod, Clamart
- Senior year options: Life and Earth Sciences, Mathematics
In my final year of high school, I already knew that I wanted to pursue higher education. I didn't feel ready to enter the job market right away, and I needed time to develop my career plan.
My sister, who had taken a preparatory course in biological and environmental sciences before enrolling in an engineering school specializing in agri-food, told me a lot about her classes.
I found it fascinating and wanted to explore this field. So I asked myself: post-baccalaureate program or preparatory program? The preparatory program seemed very elitist, with enormous pressure, and I didn't know if I could keep up. On the other hand, a post-baccalaureate program seemed more suitable, with less competition and a more relaxed atmosphere.
I discovered UniLaSalle through friends who study there. I started looking into it on the website, then I went to the Open House. I applied for the Food & Health program, attracted mainly by the health aspect, although I'm still considering a career in agri-food. I really enjoyed the week-long elective on this subject! Today, I'm thinking about careers as a quality engineer or in marketing, and I'm also interested in research and development, although I still have some reservations.
On Parcoursup, I was afraid of not getting into an engineering school, so I made 10 choices, including BTS programs, engineering courses, and preparatory classes, all in the agri-food sector. I really put a lot of effort into my cover letter: I wanted the jury to understand my determination to join UniLaSalle. I explained that it was my first choice and why I thought this school was ideal for me.
In the end, I was accepted to EBI and ESA in Angers, but I chose UniLaSalle for two main reasons: it's the only school that really makes the connection between agri-food and health, and I had excellent feedback from students and parents. They told me about the friendly atmosphere, the rich student life, and the availability of the professors.
My first few months here have gone very well. I was a little worried about feeling anonymous in the lecture halls, but in the end, I felt comfortable right away. The teachers are approachable, and if I have any questions, I can also count on the second-year students to help me. I'm really happy with my choice!
