Since November 2023, the INJA (National Institute for Young Blind People) and UniLaSalle Rennes have been running the UNINJA mentoring program together.
UNINJA enables eight high school students from INJA to benefit from two years of personalized guidance from their mentors, eight second-year students in the integrated preparatory program at UniLaSalle Rennes. This project was launched based on the observation that the main obstacle to higher education for INJA high school students was their future classmates' perception of their disability.
The different phases of this program have enabled:
- Lasallian students to learn about visual impairments, compensatory measures, accessibility tools, and mobility aids available at INJA;
- INJA high school students to ask their mentors many questions about their daily life as students at UniLaSalle Rennes, but also to discover the academic world and the richness of student life on our Breton campus through visits to the premises, participation in classes, and meetings with student associations.
In 2025, thanks to financial support from Suez, a mobility program in Romania has been integrated into the UNINJA program for participating high school/university student pairs.
The richness of the experience offered allows INJA high school students to better project themselves into higher education.
A program from the Optique Commune consortium
The UNINJA program is run as part of the Optique Commune consortium with financial support from UNADEV.
This consortium was created in 2023 by INJA, APIDV, the 100% Handinamique association, and UniLaSalle, four organizations seeking to pool their resources and expertise in the field of visual impairment and support for young people from their studies to working life.

Actions carried out by Optique Commune
Supporting young people from secondary school to higher education
We help young people with visual impairments by offering them tailored support. Through tutoring, mentoring, and career guidance workshops, they develop the skills and independence they need to thrive in their educational journey.
Facilitating the transition from education to employment
To promote professional integration, the consortium offers a post-training follow-up service for INJA students, a support network that promotes independence and emulation among young people, and a mentoring program dedicated to professional integration. Recruitment forums are organized, and financial assistance is also available to help everyone achieve their professional goals.
Pooling resources for greater impact
By collaborating with various stakeholders, we optimize the support provided to young people with visual impairments. The coordination of actions via a steering committee, the sharing of best practices, and the organization of joint events reinforce the effectiveness of educational and professional integration measures.
