For almost 30 years, the Environment College has been bringing together professors and researchers who contribute to the teaching, research and expertise of the Rennes-based establishment, which specializes in environmental issues related to the circular economy, air, water and soil quality, waste recovery, renewable energies, eco-construction and environmental management.
Issues, challenges and positioning
Through teaching and research, the teams at the Environment College are committed to training generalist engineers and experts to combat climate change and the collapse of biodiversity, and to find solutions for effective, sustainable environmental protection. Expertise covers :
- Managing the environmental impact of human activities
- Improving the environmental performance of organizations
- Sustainable development of territories, industrial risks and ecological engineering
- Optimizing processes (chemical, physical, biotechnological, etc.) applied to the environment
Skills and teams
The research activity is led by seven teacher-researchers under the name Cyclann, with the aim of activating both the individual and collective dynamics that are now a daily reality of research on the Rennes Campus.
The expertise of our researchers is at the service of industrial dynamics. This activity has been part of the School since 2007, following EME's academic recognition. The ambition is to consolidate the School's public service missions for all stakeholders: students, research organizations, research support institutions, etc., and of course innovative companies.
The industrial dynamic is naturally at the heart of the organization of the Cyclann research cluster in Rennes:
- A student on an internship will have identified possible solutions with the host company to reduce the environmental impact of its activity.
- Examination of these solutions leads a teacher-researcher to consider research projects corresponding to his or her field of expertise.
- A partnership is set up with the company, and solutions for organizing and financing the research project are identified.
- Once the project has been completed, appropriate communication of the results enables knowledge to be disseminated to the benefit of all.
Teacher-researchers are both :
- associated with university laboratories, where they take part in academic research work, enabling them to increase their level of expertise.
- in charge of supervising students' work, particularly during internships, which enables them to understand industrial issues and expand their network of contacts.
- engaged in research and development work for the benefit of companies, which gives full meaning to their missions.
Missions
Students in the Environmental Engineering, Bachelor of Science Environmental Coordinator, Master of Science Sustainable Management and Specialized Master's courses in Circular Economy benefit from the supervision of teacher-researchers as they implement concrete projects: research and development work, studies, "state of the art" projects, etc., linked to issues raised by companies, local authorities, associations, etc.
The teaching and research staff of the Cyclann research cluster work in close collaboration with public and private partners. The projects, carried out within the framework of action research, aim to contribute to the implementation of circular economy approaches and policies in order to integrate the principles of corporate social responsibility and meet the objectives of sustainable development.
