A network of multidisciplinary partners
To enrich the ecosystem of veterinary students and be as close as possible to the realities of the field, training is part of a network of local, national and international multidisciplinary partners. Semi-distributed clinics are an integral part of this approach.
- Parks, shelters and associations: breeding farms and stud farms, zoos, animal shelters, animal protection associations
- Professional players: farmers, breeders, animal feed, agri-food, pharmaceutical and medical device laboratories
- Veterinary professionals: veterinary clinics, veterinary hospitals
- Academic partners: faculties of medicine, pharmacy and science at the University of Rouen Normandie, Medical Training Center Rouen, Dassault 3D learning system, international veterinary faculties.
Academic research and educational innovation
The One Health concept highlights the close links between human health, animal health and ecological balance. Initiated in the early 2000s by three UN agencies (the WHO, the FAO and the World Organization for Animal Health), this concept is based on a multi-disciplinary, global approach to health, with the veterinarian considered an essential link in the control of health risks linked to interactions between humans, animals and the environment. UniLaSalle's cross-disciplinary research areas fully support this approach.
More than just a veterinary hospital dedicated to pets and NACs (new companion animals), the primary function of the UniLaSalle CHEV will be to provide clinical training for veterinary students, based on Evidence-Based Veterinary Medicine. It will also be a centre for clinical research, continuing education and post-graduate training. Spanning over 3,000 m2, the CHEV will feature state-of-the-art clinical equipment and innovative teaching systems.
Research activities are focused on veterinary public health, animal health and food quality-safety. They focus on three main areas:
- Basic veterinary sciences in veterinary public health and animal health;
- Veterinary clinical research at the veterinary school's hospital center (CHEV) and semidistributed clinical partners;
- Translational veterinary research at the interface of basic and clinical veterinary research.
They integrate data management (big data / data mining) and artificial intelligence (deep learning) applied to veterinary sciences. The study of human and social components, which are crucial to the transformation of systems across all value chains, also benefits from the UniLaSalle group's scientific ecosystem.
Clinical training is enriched by clinical rotations at CHEV UniLaSalle, as well as by the semi-distributed system. The latter is built around privileged partners whose aim is to enrich the pool of healthy animals (farms, shelters, animal communities, animal parks, dispensaries), to diversify experience by approaching all species and to train in different clinical practices (hospital, referral, generalist, outpatient, prophylaxis).
In line with the "never the first time on an animal" philosophy, students are put into stimulating, scripted and realistic situations using adapted simulation methods: on a physical model, digital with or without tactile feedback, 360° videos, immersive virtual reality, interactive video with decision tree, augmented reality... With the expertise of the Medical Training Center (MTC) at the University of Rouen Normandy, as well as partnerships with start-ups.
Life-long learning is compulsory for all veterinary surgeons. It is enshrined in the French Rural Code and supervised by the Conseil national de l'ordre des vétérinaires. That's why students are supported in acquiring autonomy in learning (self-learning) throughout their course.
Teaching and research activities are part of UniLaSalle's ISO 9001 quality approach. They are also evaluated by specific bodies such as the HCERES (Haut Conseil de l'Evaluation, de la Recherche et de l'Enseignement supérieur), the AEEEV (Association européenne des établissements d'enseignement vétérinaire) and the French government.
In addition, both the veterinary profession and veterinary training are regulated by law.
Admissions
Admission to 1st year
Admission to a veterinary school is open to students of French nationality or nationals of a member state of the European Union, the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation (Art. R. 812-53. of the French Rural Code).
You can enter the veterinary school directly after a general or STAV final year, via Parcoursup (120 places available).
